Printing Expertise: More Ways To Beat The Bad Guys With Security Features

Printing Expertise: More Ways To Beat The Bad Guys With Security Features

Security features prevent fraud and counterfeiting. Take our money for example. It’s printed using many different security features. If you’ve been to a store recently and paid cash with a $20 bill or higher, you might have noticed the cashier making a mark on the bill with a special marker. That’s to see if the bill is printed on a paper other than the special cotton/linen paper used for U.S. currency.

The twenty dollar bill has a number of other security features as well—a watermark, microprinting, color changing inks. In fact, there are eight separate security tricks used to thwart counterfeiters. And how is that? Because security features prevent fraud, plain and simple. And King Printing Solutions can help you determine the best way to secure your important documents.

King Printing Solutions can provide many of these same security protections for its customers, along with numerous others. In past blog entries, we’ve covered specialty papers and inks, but there are some additional specific precautions that can be used if you want even more security. These include:

The Padlock Icon. It’s often used on negotiable documents, indicating that the document as two or more security features. The features are explained in the padlock icon.

Warning Bands. This is a border that also disclosed the security features being used in the document, and tells people what features should be checked to prove authenticity.

Blockouts. These are solid or dense patterns that prevent readability of specific information, making the information difficult to duplicate.

Inline Embossing. This is a cost-effective way to add a hard-to-duplicate feature to your document, with either a common or custom emboss pattern.

Our specialists at King Printing Solutions can help you determine which features can best protect your documents while staying within your budget.

And there are even more features that can be used when specific security concerns are required. One example of this is the Eurion Constellation Pattern. This is a licensed pattern that prevents duplication or copying. With the constellation pattern installed, the document will simply print black if someone attempts to duplicate it.

King Printing Solutions has been helping companies with high-quality printing—and document security—for more than 40 years. We can help you assess your security needs, then work with you to develop a printing strategy that is affordable and effective.

Need Extra Security For A Document? Think Ink.

Need Extra Security For A Document? Think Ink.

King Printing Solutions offers more than 30 different security features for printed documents—a capability that’s more and more important in today’s world. In the past, we’ve discussed security papers and how they can protect important documents. There are also ways to protect your documents from fraud or counterfeiting by using security printing inks.

Security inks offer a number of different security strategies, both passive and active. For example, specialized security inks can:

  • Change color when rubbed with a metal object
  • Penetrate the paper to imitate watermarks
  • Glow under ultraviolet light
  • Change color with temperature.

Specialty security printing inks can also be used so the document can’t be easily photocopied or scanned.

Security Inks Help Prevent Counterfeiting

There’s more you can do. Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) technology makes print soak through the paper and appear in a different color on the back side of the document. This is very difficult for someone to duplicate.

With our high quality printing, we can also use printed screens in the background for extra safety.  For example, Pantographs are screens of words like “VOID” or “Original Document”  that are visible on authentic piece. Or they may feature multiple colors so they’re almost impossible to photocopy.

Microprint is very small type that is readable under magnification and becomes a solid line if copied or scanned. Microprint is commonly used for borders and signature lines. Again, our precision printing of microprint is another way to use ink to protect your document.

King Printing Solutions can provide you with a custom security strategy tailored to your organization that can protect your valuable documents. We’ll work with you to determine where the most risk is, and suggest the security features that can provide you with the most protection. We’ll also look at how your documents are printed, so we can determine the most efficient way to incorporate security into your normal print runs.

In A “Paperless” World, Paper Documents Still Make A Lot Of Sense

In A “Paperless” World, Paper Documents Still Make A Lot Of Sense

Although there are advantages to digital documents, there are still many cases where paper documents are still relevant and have solid advantages. King Printing Solutions has been a provider of business documents for more than 40 years, and we’ve seen the entire digital revolution unfold. We’ve also seen why, for many companies, there are still no electronic substitutes for paper documents.

Here are situations where paper is still better:
1. You need a “Chain of Custody.” For many legal documents, or situations where there could be liability, a “chain of custody” for materials is critical. An example of this would be a drug test for employment. In this case, it’s important to document receipt of a sample from an applicant, receipt at the testing lab (with identification of the individuals involved), and documentation of results. The risks of manipulating digital files can insert uncertainty into a situation like this. With paper, there’s a physical “trail.”

2. You need security. Legal documents, such as car titles, stock certificates, checks, or other valuable items need to be protected from counterfeiting. Digital documents are particularly susceptible to fakes. Paper documents with built-in security features (security papers, microprinting, security inks, and other techniques) provide the necessary protection for these types of documents.

3. You need to provide a receipt or reference material in a remote location. On construction sites or other field locations, paper documents protect both buyer and seller with proof that a delivery has been made. If you’re traveling or relaxing where there may not be digital communications, paper documents are light, portable, and provide the information you need when other sources aren’t accessible.

4. You want to make an impression. We are inundated with digital communications in today’s world, and research shows much of it we don’t recall—even the next day. Paper documents for presentations, corporate brochures, and similar materials encourage the reader to slow down and take in the information. Fine papers, precise color, and rich photography capture the reader’s attention and convey a level of capability and professionalism that may not come across on a computer or telephone screen.

King Printing Solutions provides companies large and small with the options they need for effective print communications, including security documents, high-quality offset and flexographic printing, pressure seal documents, multi-part forms, and many specialty print techniques. Digital documents sure save space, but in many situations paper documents still make sense and are still relevant in today’s world.
